Hotel API integration

Hotel is where margin lives for most agencies, and where the technical work is genuinely harder than air. Rates move constantly, the same property appears differently in every source, and cancellation terms vary per rate rather than per hotel.

What a hotel integration has to get right

  • Rate revalidation before payment, every time, on every source
  • Content mapping so one property is one record across suppliers
  • Board basis and refundability shown clearly, not buried in terms
  • Cancellation charges calculated before the customer confirms
  • Occupancy handled properly, including child ages
  • Images and descriptions refreshed without manual maintenance

Running more than one source

  • Sources chosen to complement rather than duplicate coverage
  • De-duplication so a property does not appear twice at two prices
  • Your own direct contracts prioritised over wholesale where you hold them
  • Region-restricted activation so a source is only searched where it wins
  • Per-supplier markup, since margin expectations differ
  • Win rate and margin reported per source and per region

What agents ask for that often gets missed

  • Special requests passed through to the property rather than swallowed
  • Amendment as well as cancellation, where the supplier allows it
  • Voucher regeneration after a guest name correction
  • Group and multi-room bookings under one reference
  • Clear display of what a non-refundable rate actually commits the customer to

Questions about this#

Why does rate revalidation matter so much on hotels?

Because bedbank rates change frequently, and the gap between the cached search rate and the live booking rate comes out of your margin. Revalidating before payment means the customer pays what the supplier will honour.

What is content mapping and why should I care?

The same hotel has a different identifier and often a different name in every supplier's data. Mapping links them to one record, so your customer sees one property with the best available rate rather than the same hotel listed three times at three prices.

How many bedbanks should I connect?

Usually two or three, chosen for complementary coverage. Adding a fourth that overlaps the first three adds latency without adding bookings, and the win-rate report will show that within weeks.
